About the raci matrix builder
A RACI matrix answers one question that meetings rarely settle: for each step of a process, who does the work, who owns the outcome, who has to be asked, and who only needs telling. Writing it down turns an argument about ownership into a grid you can point at.
This builder gives you the same matrix Essoflo uses inside its process editor. Add your steps down the side and your roles across the top, then click a cell to assign letters. It flags the two mistakes that make a matrix useless — a step with nobody accountable, and a step with several people accountable — as you build, not after you have shared it.
Not every team uses RACI. Switch the model to RACIS if you need a Support column, or DACI if the person doing the work is a Driver rather than Responsible, or define your own letters entirely. Three views come as standard: the classic grid, a pivot by role for "what am I on the hook for", and a pivot by letter for "who is accountable for anything at all".
Nothing you type is sent anywhere. The matrix is saved in your browser so it survives a refresh, and you can download it as a PDF, an interactive HTML file that keeps all three views, or Markdown.
How to use it

List the steps
Add each step of the process down the left. Keep them at the level a person would actually hand over — "approve the spend", not "do the finance".

Add the roles
Add a column per role across the top. Use role names rather than people, so the matrix survives someone leaving.

Assign the letters
Click a cell and pick the letters that apply. Give every step exactly one Accountable — the builder will tell you when one is missing or duplicated.

Check the warnings
Steps with nobody assigned, or with more than one person accountable, are marked. Resolve them before you share the matrix; they are the ones that cause trouble later.

Export as PDF, interactive HTML or Markdown. The HTML file keeps all three views and works without a network connection.
Questions
- What does RACI stand for?
- Responsible, Accountable, Consulted and Informed. Responsible is whoever does the work. Accountable is the single person who owns the outcome and answers for it. Consulted are the people whose input is needed before it happens, and Informed are the people who need to know once it has.
- Can more than one person be accountable for a step?
- They can be listed, but it is the most common way a RACI matrix goes wrong, so this builder flags it. Accountability that is shared between two people tends to belong to neither of them in practice. Responsible can be shared freely — several people can do the work.
- What is the difference between RACI, RACIS and DACI?
- RACIS adds Support: people who actively help the Responsible person rather than only being consulted. DACI replaces Responsible with Driver and Accountable with Approver, which suits decision-making better than task execution. This builder supports all three, plus a custom model where you define the letters yourself.
- Is this free, and do I need an account?
- It is free and there is no sign-up. The matrix is kept in your browser rather than on our servers, so nothing you type is sent anywhere and clearing your browser data will clear it. Download the file if you want to keep it.
- What can I download?
- A PDF for sharing or printing, a self-contained HTML file that keeps all three views working offline, and Markdown for pasting into Notion, Confluence or a repository.
